Tortellini Lasagna

My friend’s Beth and Kerry cooked this for a group of us during a college reunion weekend.  It’s way easier than lasagna, and it definately tastes great.  Beth emailed me the recipe, and said her mom had been making it for their family for a long time. 

Sometimes when I don’t have enough time I just use a jar of premade spaghetti sauce instead of making my own tomato sauce.   I’ve also just used ground beef when I don’t have Italian Sausage in the freezer.


Tortellini Lasagna (source:  Beth’s Mom)


1/2 lb ground beef

1/2 lb ground italian sausage

1/2 cup white onion, diced

1 clove of garlic, minced

1 teaspoon basil

1 teaspoon oregano

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

1 16 oz. can of tomato sauce

1 6 oz can tomato paste

1 cup cottage cheese

2 cups shredded mozzerella cheese

4 cups cheese tortellini

1/2 cup shredded parmesan.


Brown meat, onion, and garlic in a large saucepan.  Drain, and return to skillet.

Add next 5 ingredients (basil, oregano, worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, and tomato paste)  to skillet.  Simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes.  Stirring occasionally.

In a greased 9×13 place tortellini (I usually use frozen).  Layer the cottage cheese on top and 1 cup of the mozzerella.

Pour sauce you just made from skillet evenly over the top of your noodles/cheeses layer.  Top wth additional mozzerella cheese and parmesan cheese. 

Cover and bake at 350 for 45 minutes.  Remove the cover for the last 15 minutes of baking.  Enjoy.
